This summer, students from the NRNU MEPhI worked on the construction of the Rooppur NPP in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh as part of the International student construction team Lotus. The students worked for Atomstroyexport JSC, the general contractor of the project, and carried out author’s and technical supervision of construction, installation, thermal installation and other types of work. The students were placed precisely in those departments that contributed to obtaining information useful for their careers about various technological processes.

The Rooppur NPP, located on the bank of the river Padma, includes two units of the VVER-1200/523 reactor, which will generate about 10% of the total energy output in the country. And the construction of the station has been underway since 2018.

Stanislav Peshkov shares his impressions of the trip with us:

We found the station in a very interesting period. The construction of the first block is close to completion and almost all the equipment has already been installed. This gave us the opportunity to take a live look at the reactor vessel, steam generators, turbines and other equipment, most of which, after the delivery of nuclear fuel, will be available to a very limited circle of people.
We got a lot of impressions from exploring a completely new country, local culture, language and climate.
We are definitely very lucky in this regard!

Excursions around the station were organized for students, including: to the training center, reactor, auxiliary and machine halls of the first circuit, accompanied by specialists from the nuclear industry.
